چکیده

The complete near infrared (0.9-2.5 µm) spectra in three different star forming regions (HH24-26, HH72 and BHR71) are presented and analyzed in the framework of shock excitation models. The spectra are dominated by H2 rovibrational emission (vibrational state ν ≤ 5, excitation energy Tex ≤ 35 000 K), while emission from ionized material, recognizable from [Fe II] and [S II] lines, is significantly fainter. The analysis of the H2 excitation diagrams points to the existence of two different excitation regimes: whilst condensations observed only in the infrared appear to have temperatures rarely exceeding 3000 K and can be modelled in the framework of steady-state C-shock models, the infrared counterparts of Herbig Haro (HH) objects exhibit a temperature stratification with components up to more than 5000 K. The H2 emission from representative HH objects (HH26A, HH72A and HH320A) has been successfully modelled by planar J-shocks with magnetic precursors, for which the main parameters (pre-shock density, speed) are derived. However, these same models are unable to reproduce the observed atomic and ionic emission, which probably arises from a distinct and perhaps more embedded region with respect to that traced by the H2. Some of the physical parameters of such regions (fractional ionization, density) have been estimated in HH72, on the basis of the observed ionic lines.

Tracing Shock Evolution in Yso Jets

We have undertaken new observations tracing the evolution of shocks along the best resolved examples of protostellar jets by means of high resolution, deep K-band spectroscopy at UKIRT and NTT. In this paper we analyse trends in H2 excitation within the well collimated jet of HH 212, comprising multiple bows along each flow axis. The aim of our survey is to better understand the origin of the s...

Discovery of [FeII]- and H2-emission from protostellar jets in the CB3 and CB230 globules

Four Bok globules were studied in the Near-Infrared, through narrow-band filters, centered at the 1.644 μm line of [FeII], the H2-line at 2.122 μm, and the adjacent continuum. We report the discovery of [Feii] and H2 protostellar jets and knots in the globules CB3 and CB230. The [FeII]-jet in CB230 is defined by a continuous elongated emission feature, superimposed on which two knots are seen; ...

Multi-dimensional numerical simulations of molecular jets

Molecular jets announce the successful birth of a protostar. We develop here a model for the jets and their environments, adapting a multi-dimensional hydrocode to follow themolecular-atomic transitions of hydrogen. We examine powerful outflows into dense gas. The cocoon which forms around a jet is a very low density cavity of atomic gas. These atoms originate from strong shocks which dissociate...

Detection of Knots and Jets in IRAS 06061 + 2151

We report detection of a Young Stellar Object with an evidence for an outflow in the form of knots in the molecular hydrogen emission line (2.121µm) towards the massive star forming region IRAS 06061+2151. Near-infrared images reveal IRAS 06061+2151 to be a cluster of at least five sources, four of which seem to be early B type young stellar objects, in a region of 12 arcsecs surrounded by a ne...

On the Influence of Magnetic Fields on the Structure of Protostellar Jets

We here present the first results of fully three-dimensional (3-D) MHD simulations of radiative cooling pulsed (time-variable) jets for a set of parameters which are suitable for protostellar outflows. Considering different initial magnetic field topologies in approximate equipartition with the thermal gas, i.e., (i) a longitudinal, and (ii) a helical field, both of which permeating the jet and...
